The Formal Opening of the Residence Taleon Sheremetev Palace

On 27 May 2006 the formal opening took place at 4, Kutuzov Embankment, St Petersburg of the Residence Taleon Sheremetev Palace.

This is the name given to the new hotel complex operating in the former mansion of Count Alexander Sheremetev.

The building was gutted by fire in 1993 and then stood derelict for seven years, gradually turning into a ruin.

The reconstruction and restoration of the mansion were carried out by the Taleon company on the basis of an investment agreement with the city administration. The reconstruction and restoration work was carried out from 2001. The total investment involved amounted to some 40 million US dollars.

The opening of the residence, which formed part of the programme of festivities for the anniversary of the founding of the city, was attended by Valentina Matviyenko, the Governor of St Petersburg, Vice-Governors Alexander Vakhmistrov and Sergei Tarasov, and Vadim Tiulpanov, the chairman of the Legislative Assembly.

The Residence Taleon Sheremetev Palace will be available for rent in its entirety as accommodation or as a venue for conferences, banquets and private functions.

The mansion’s 5,000 square metres of fully restored historical interiors include 7 bedrooms, the White Hall (with a ceiling height of 10 metres), several drawing-rooms (Gold, Silver, Gothic and more), a multilevel library, a dining-room and bars, as well as a gym and a spa complex.

Panoramic lifts ascend from the atrium to the other floors of the complex. The top (fourth) storey contains a winter garden with a portrait gallery of the Counts Sheremetev, ancestors of the last pre-revolutionary owner of the palace.

After the official part of the opening ceremony, the waters of the Neva adjoining the mansion of Count Alexander Sheremetev were lit up by a pyrotechnical show.
